Correlação entre as respostas fisiológicas ao exercício e a performance cognitiva em homens de meia idade e idosos
Resumo
É sabido que idosos fisicamente ativos apresentam menores declínios na capacidade cognitiva. O presente trabalho investiga a correlação entre os parâmetros metabólicos e ventilatórios com alguns testes cognitivos. 36 voluntários, idade (50-75 anos), foram divididos em: (A) – grupo integral, n=36, (B) – atletas, n=16, (C) – não atletas, n=20, (D) – atletas + não atletas ≥ 61 anos, n=18, e (E)- atletas + não atletas ≤ 60 anos, n=18. Os indivíduos foram submetidos a um teste ergoespirométrico máximo realizado em bicicleta, assim como a testes cognitivos. Correlações estatisticamente significantes foram encontradas (testes de correlação de Pearson e Spearman p ≤ 0,05) em todos os grupos, exceto no grupo A. Os resultados sugerem a existência de correlações entre os índices de aptidão aeróbia, e algumas funções cognitivas em homens de meia idade e adultos idosos.
