Crossfit® x musculation: adult functionality over 40 years
Abstract
The practice of physical exercises is considered indispensable for improving health and quality of life, having great importance for the body's functionality in daily tasks and for the prevention of metabolic and musculoskeletal diseases. The aim of the present study was to analyze the physical fitness levels of adults over 40 years and their correlations with CrossFit® or traditional bodybuilding training. Thirty volunteers participated in the study, 15 CrossFit® practitioners and 15 bodybuilding practitioners. A battery of Fullerton tests, from the Rikli and Jones protocol, was used. The tests consist of: getting up and sitting down; elbow flexion; sit and reach; BMI; sit, walk and sit again; reach behind the back; walk for 6 minutes. In the mobility test it was found that 23 (76.7%) of the 30 participants demonstrated an adequate level. In the flexibility evaluation, 28 (93.3%) presented satisfactory results. A positive relationship was also observed between the walk test and the sit-up test. There was no considerable difference between practitioners of the modalities in question. With the present research, it is concluded that both CrossFit® and bodybuilding provide positive results regarding the physical capacity of older practitioners. Thus, both activities can be considered valid for improving body functionality in the daily life of this public, also contributing to the maintenance of health.
