Morphological and muscular strength indicators in elite futsal from Paraíba State
Abstract
Due to the scarcity of information on morphological variables and muscular strength of futsal athletes, especially in the Northeast, this study analyzed morphological and muscular strength indicators of elite futsal Paraiban athletes. In a cross-sectional study, 18 male futsal athletes (23 ± 4 years, 72.1 ± 8.0 kg, 172.6 ± 5.4 cm) in the pre-competitive period were submitted to morphological measurements (body mass, height, body adiposity, endomorphy, mesomorphy and ectomorphy) and lower limb isometric muscle strength (FIMI). The results present the wings have a lower BMI compared to the fixed ones and a lower body adiposity compared to all other positions (p <0.05). The ponderal index was higher for the wings than for the pivots (p = 0.023). In addition, goalkeepers, pivots and fixers were classified as endomorphic mesomorphs (4.4-5.3-1.7), (4.0-5.8-1.2) and (4.2-5.6 -1.3), respectively, differing from the classification of the wings that was balanced mesomorph (2.4-4.0-2.5) (p <0.05). The FIMI of goalkeepers (98.2 ± 30.6 kgf), wings (76.9 ± 26.8 kgf), pivots (124.3 ± 40.7 kgf) and fixed (114.6 ± 13.0 kgf) were similar (F3, 17 = 2.73, p = 0.116). From the linear regression analysis, it was found that the contracted arm circumference was the best predictor for FIMI (adjusted R2 = 0.697; F = 34.5; p = 0.001). It is concluded that the wings are differentiated players in the morphological characteristics, corroborating with the premise that the training program must develop according to the tactical game function.
