Dosimetry used in criotherapy for muscle recovery in endurance athletes: a scope review
Abstract
Introduction: Endurance athletes are exposed to a harsh routine of training and competitions that most often result in muscle damage that can impair performance and expose the athlete to musculoskeletal injuries. Cryotherapy is an alternative for the recovery of these athletes. Objectives: To identify which types of cryotherapy and dosimetry are used for muscle recovery after exercise in endurance sports practitioners. Methods: The searches were carried out in the databases: PubMed, BVS, SciELO and PEDro, which were published between 2010 and May 2020. The analyzes of the articles were carried out by two authors independently using the eligibility criteria and PEDro Scale. Results: The included studies indicate that cryotherapy resources can be used in post-muscle recovery in endurance athletes, as they promote improvement in the levels of biological chewers, not muscle recruitment during maximum voluntary contraction, perception of effort, pain and fatigue. Conclusion: Among the cryotherapeutic resources, the most used were cryoimmersion (application of 5 to 18 minutes and temperature from 5 ± 1 to 12 ° C), cryogenic cabin (application of 3 minutes and temperature of -160 ° C) and cryochamber (application 3 minutes and a temperature of -110 ° C).
