Effects of a warm-up program on musculoskeletal variables in female futsal players
Abstract
The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of a warm-up program on musculoskeletal variables in female futsal athletes. This quasi-experimental study included a sample of female futsal athletes from a futsal team located in a municipality in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The athletes were assessed pre- and post-intervention using the following tests: Side Hop Test (assessment of lower limb muscle power), Lunge Test (assessment of ankle dorsiflexion range of motion), Hip Stiffness Test (assessment of hip internal rotation range of motion), and Y Balance Test (balance assessment). The warm-up program took place over 20 weeks, with two sessions per week, conducted before the team's regular training. It included exercises focusing on joint mobility and stability, balance, and flexibility work. We showed that ankle mobility increased bilaterally post-intervention (right= 7.02±3.18cm to 11.61±2.94cm, p<0.01; left= 7.23±2.80cm to 11.64± 2.68cm, p<0.01), as well as hip mobility (right= 25.69±7.37º to 39.92±8.94º, p<0.01; left= 31.23±7, 77º to 41.30±8.62º, p<0.01). However, muscle power did not change after the intervention (right= 8.52±3.89s to 9.48±0.90s, p=0.39; left= 8.21±3.71s to 9.27± 0.98s; p=0.35), as well as balance (right= 90.08±13.62% to 85.74±1018%, p=0.08; left= 87.51±8.46 to 87.13±7.19, p=0.80). Based on these findings, we highlight the importance of incorporating warm-up programs of this nature to reduce the risk of injury development.
