Water activities and social interaction of autistic children
Abstract
Introduction: Autism is the most common neurological disorder that affects children, causing obstacles in terms of communication, behavior and motor skills and arises during the first three years of life. Objective: To develop an integrative review of works that indicate the current evidence on the use of water activities in the social interaction of autistic children. Materials and methods: This are an integrative literature review. Including retrospective and prospective observational studies, controlled clinical trials (CCTs), and case studies that investigated the effect of aquatic activities on the social interaction of autistic children. The searches were performed in the databases: Pubmed, Scielo and Google Academic. Results: Four studies were included for qualitative analysis. Improvements in social context and reduction in antisocial behavior have been demonstrated. Conclusion: Based on the data evaluated, there appears to be a positive effect on aquatic activities in improving the social behavior of children diagnosed with ASD.
