Abstract

Background: Aiming to improve resistance training (RT) performance, different methods have been investigated. Objective: To evaluate the influence of visual restraint, as well as the interference of verbal information on the number of repetitions to failure in barbell curls (DR) in RT practitioners. Methods: An experimental, cross-sectional, and cross-sectional study was carried out. 14 men (22.2 ± 4.1 years; training time: 7.7 ± 2.2 months) underwent the test and re-test of 1 repetition maximum (1RM) to determine load in the RD exercise. Individually, they were evaluated in three different situations, namely: 1st - execution to failure with 70% of the RM in the DR. 2nd - with visual deprivation (PV) running until failure with 70% of the RM in the DR, after a passive pause and informed that it would maintain the load, execute with 75% of the RM. 3rd - with PV running until failure with 70% of the RM in the DR, after a passive pause and informed that it would increase, execute with the same 70% of the RM. Results: There was no difference comparing the same load (70%RM) in the three conditions, as well as PV with 70% RM compared to 75% RM (informing that the load would be maintained). In the last experimental session with PV at 70% of the RM, with the belief that there would be an increase in load, however, there was a decrease in repetitions. Conclusion: Visual deprivation with belief in past information optimizes RT performance.
