Contribution of resistance/strength exercises in the prophylaxis of anterior cruciate ligament injuries in female soccer players
Abstract
The narrative review outlined in this research sought to understand the importance of resistance/strength training in preventing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in female football athletes. After searching the basic scientific literature on the topic in question, it is clear that such studies are necessary as the discussion presented reinforces the need to promote longevity and performance in the sporting practice of female football athletes. Evidence suggests that multifaceted programs involving strength exercises, plyometrics, balance, agility, flexibility, among other strategies, are potentially promising methodologies for reducing the occurrence of ACL injuries. Therefore, such strategies should be included in physical preparation/prevention programs, with the aim of ensuring the optimization of movement patterns and the correction of muscular imbalances (one of the risk factors for ACL injuries). Therefore, it is sensible to point out that resistance/strength training can have a positive impact on the prevention of ACL injuries in women's football, which is crucial for the athletes' sporting performance and longevity.
