Efectos de la suplementación con proteína de suero durante el entrenamiento de fuerza sobre la masa corporal magra: una revisión sistemática

Resumen

Introducción: El mantenimiento de la masa magra ha sido destacado en la literatura por su contribución a la calidad de vida del individuo, importante no solo en la locomoción sino también en el metabolismo. Se han adoptado estrategias nutricionales para causar aumentos significativos en la masa magra en los practicantes de entrenamiento de fuerza. Una de estas estrategias se refiere a la suplementación con proteína de suero (whey). A pesar de que los estudios agudos muestran eficacia con este tipo de intervención, este tema sigue sin estar claro. Objetivo: Verificar los efectos de la suplementación con suero de leche durante el entrenamiento de fuerza sobre la masa corporal magra. Revisión de literatura: Esta fue una revisión sistemática en la que solo se incluyeron los ensayos clínicos aleatorios controlados con placebo que se encuentran en la base de datos PUBMED que cumplieron con los criterios establecidos. Se incluyeron ocho ensayos para el análisis final. Seis ensayos no mostraron diferencias significativas en la ganancia de masa corporal magra entre los grupos de suplementos de suero de leche y placebo. La discrepancia encontrada en los resultados se puede atribuir a la cantidad relativamente grande de factores existentes en los protocolos a largo plazo que implican el mantenimiento de la masa corporal magra. Conclusión: El entrenamiento de fuerza es un estímulo esencial para que se produzcan ganancias de masa magra y mantener un estado nutricional adecuado favorece estas adaptaciones. Sin embargo, la evidencia científica actual sugiere que la suplementación con suero de leche en individuos jóvenes durante el entrenamiento de fuerza no muestra superioridad sobre otras fuentes de proteínas o carbohidratos.
